THOMASVILLE — The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Davidson County are excited to announce they are now taking applications for the 2021 Summer Day Camp program. The camp will run for 10 weeks, starting on June 7 and ending on Aug. 12. The camp hours will be from 7:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and will be open Monday through Friday. There will be a limit of 60 enrollment spots that will be determined on a first come first serve basis.

The camp will be offered for children in grades K-8 and consist of numerous educational and fun opportunities such as daily Bible devotions, reading and STEM games, poetry, public speaking, sports competitions, air hockey, foosball, billiards, bingo, and Scouting. It will also offer optional off site field trips according to COVID-19 safety guidelines set by CDC and local health officials. Examples include science museums, zoos, nature farms, swimming, miniature golf, skating, and baseball games.

Activity trips have been on hold over the past year to limit many of the health risks associated with COVID-19. In an effort to minimize many of these risks, the Club staff put together a plan of action to help ensure that summer campers will be able to get out and explore fun places this summer, while still practicing safe strategies to limit the exposure and spread of COVID-19. Included in the safety plan are steps such as continued mask wearing and hand washing throughout the day, temperature readings twice a day, sanitizing hands before loading buses, routine sanitation of bus seats, spaced out bus seating, and more.

Club Executive Director Brandon Lomax says, “Each year brings new challenges and this past year’s seem to be among the biggest yet. Aside from the health and financial impact caused by COVID-19, our community’s children are starving for social connections that are not limited to a phone or computer screen. Our staff team is determined to meet this need by providing a memorable and interactive summer camp experience that is as fun and safe as possible”.

The cost will be $400 per child for the entire 10 week camp, with the first payment of $200 due by June 4 and the second payment of $200 due by July 2. An early bird discount of $40 off per child will be applied if the full $360 is paid by May 21. A one-time registration fee of $15 per child is required for new enrollments. Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily at no charge.

Anyone who would like to contribute toward or sponsor a child’s summer camp cost may do so with a monetary donation made to The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Davidson County, while designating the gift to the BGC Summer Camp Fund. Donations may be mailed or dropped off at the Salvation Army’s main office at 314 West 9th Ave., Lexington, N.C. 27292 or at the Boys & Girls Club, 309 Etta Lane, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.
