To the editor:
I am disturbed. I do not understand how a young man, attending a funeral, can be shot and killed and the shooter was identified, yet there is no accountability. I have a concealed-carry permit and understand the consequences of discharging a firearm, and because the responsibility is so big I seldom carry. Surely a law officer would be equally knowledgeable of his responsibilities of discharging his weapon, especially when off-duty. I believe that High Point has great policing, and the relationship between the police and the Black community in High Point is much better than in our neighboring cities. The shooter is in Davidson County, and I would suggest the sheriff’s department review its training as it appears to be inadequate. Since grand jury proceedings are secret we will likely never know what went on, but this makes me question the fairness. Fred Cox died, unarmed, and saving the life of another by pushing her through the church door ahead of him. He’s a hero and he deserved better!
