HIGH POINT — Mildred Smith McGukin, 97, of High Point passed into eternity, to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 7, 2021. She was a native of Anderson County, South Carolina. Mildred was born to the late Grover Cleveland and Leila Mae Smith on April 11, 1923 in Iva, South Carolina.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, James Robert McGukin, Sr. who passed in 2004. She is survived by her son, James Robert McGukin Jr. MD, FACC and wife, Shirley Oliver McGukin, as well as her 2 grandsons, James Robert McGukin III and Thomas Oliver McGukin.

The oldest member of the South Carolina Troopers Association, she was a dedicated homemaker, seamstress and was an avid painter and loved to garden well into her 90’s. Mildred was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Trinity, NC.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, Feb. 12, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Cumby’s Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Dr., High Point. The service will be officiated by Rev. Paul Welborn. The family will receive friends at Cumby’s on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. Burial will be in the New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson, SC. beside her husband on the date of their 77th wedding anniversary.
