HIGH POINT — Mrs. Betty Louise Rhew Coble, 93, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2021, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield with her family by her side.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Cumby Family Funeral Home led by Pastor Mark Loy, Green Street Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-1 p.m.

Mrs. Coble was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Guilford County, a daughter of Atlas and Onie Boggs Rhew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 wonderful years, Hal Wesley Coble; brothers, David and Robert Rhew; and sister, Glenda Rhew Gragg.

Mrs. Coble was a lifelong resident of High Point. After graduating from High Point Central High School, she moved to St. Louis to work for the War Department. In 1947, she married Hal and soon after became manager at Burtner Furniture Company. She joined Wachovia Bank and Trust Company in 1965, where she retired as the first female Vice President of the Mortgage and Loan division. She was a member of the High Point Realtors Association and the Order of the Eastern Star. In retirement, she volunteered at High Point Regional Hospital, where she especially enjoyed giving tours to expectant mothers.

She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church, where she served beside her husband as a 4th grade Sunday school teacher, was a member of the Finance Committee, and the Maynard Sunday School Class, a group of friends she dearly loved. Serving the Lord was a cornerstone of her life and a gift she shared with those she knew.

Mrs. Coble will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her legacy is one of faith, love, service and leadership.

She is survived by her son, Hal Steven (Steve) Coble and wife Cheryl of Chapin, SC; and granddaughter, Shannon Coble Myers of High Point.

The family expresses appreciation to the members of the Maynard Sunday School Class, to Cam Parrish for her kindness, and to the staff in Hughes House at Pennybyrn for their loving care.
