HIGH POINT — Joan Smith Huffman, 88: I arrived on Earth, Jan. 20, 1933, to Claude and Alette Smith of Rocky Point, NC (no, we didn’t crack rocks back then to make fire!).
Enjoyed and loved by two sisters, Mrs. David (Vivian) Fernandez, deceased, and Mrs. Robert (Pati) Sheahan, of Jamestown, NC.
I graduated Burgaw HS in 1951 and moved to High Point to attend Business College. First job was private sector for Dr. Dennis Cook, president of HP College. Later on I was a bookkeeper for 25 years for Kennedy Oil Co. During a short marriage, I had the loves of my life, a daughter, Mrs. Darrell (Karen) Rhoades, of Wasilla, Alaska; a son, Mr. Robert A. Lee III, of Thomasville, NC; and one grandson I loved, Hunter Rhoades, of Killdeer, ND.
Later in life I married Venable Huffman, who owned and operated Huffman Paint Co. He was also an Elder at our Worship Center, The Church at HP.
Every summer we toured and danced all over Europe, until he passed away with Parkinson’s in 1999. He was a precious gift to me from our Lord.
To so many people I hold dear, I have moved to #7, Golden Street. In “passing,” please come see me, it’s Heavenly!!
Per Joan’s request, no formal services will be held.
