HIGH POINT — Mr. Roy Grayson Lockhart Sr., 91, resident of High Point, died September 3, 2021, at Hospice Home at High Point.

He was born December 23, 1929, in Guilford County, a son to B.A. and Zula Hamm Lockhart. As a resident of this area all his life, he was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church and later Christ United Methodist Church.

He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War, and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. In 1952, he married the former Jackie Jarvis, who survives of the residence.

Also surviving is a son, Roy “Pete” Lockhart Jr. and wife Carol of Lexington; a daughter, Teri Lockhart of Sylva; two sisters, Joretta Lewis and Coleen Dailey both of High Point; two grandchildren, Roy “Tripp” Lockhart III and wife Stephanie and Robbie Lockhart; and two great grandchildren, Max and Whit Lockhart. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

A private graveside service will be held at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point at a later date.

Mr. Lockhart will lie in state from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point for those who wish to pay their respects.
