SOPHIA — Fred Dexter Frank, 85, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021, at his residence following several years of declining health.
Fred was born in Switzer, WV, on July 4, 1935, a son of the late Steve Frank and Gertrude Dillon Frank. He owned and operated Frank’s Shoe Repair in both Greensboro and High Point for over 60 years. Fred mentored underprivileged youth in the communities he served, teaching them necessary life and professional skills. He loved good food and enjoyed sharing meals with his family and friends. Fred loved his “farm” in Randolph County and was very devoted to his wife and family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Helen Molnar Frank, and two brothers, Johnny and James Frank.
Surviving are three daughters, Yolanda Kish (Bill), Tracey Frank and Kim Simmons (Ken); three sons, Freddie Frank (Donnet), James Frank (Melonie) and Billy Frank (Karen); 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; his mentored family, Derrick Miller, Keith Miller, Bo Harris and Steve Frank; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sechrest-Davis Funeral Chapel, 976 Phillips Ave., by Rev. Roger Carmichael. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 until 9 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Randolph County or any youth program.
