HIGH POINT — Mr. Bill Ray Gant, 82, a resident of High Point, died Jan. 9, 2021, at High Point Medical Center. He was born Oct. 23, 1938, in Stony Point, North Carolina and had been a resident of this area since 1961. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army paratrooper division. He also was a 33 year veteran of the High Point Police Department and a member of the State of North Carolina Police Association. In 1981, he was awarded the Long Leaf Pine, one of the state’s highest civilian honors.

Surviving is his wife Carolyn King Gant of the residence; two sons, Dale Gant and wife, Joan, of Charlotte and Dean Gant and fiancee, Amy, of High Point; a sister, Carol Moates of Pleasant Garden; and three grandchildren, Devin, Ridge, and Dawson Gant

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point, with Pastor Bill Hardwell officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Floral Garden Park Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
