JAMESTOWN — Win Scott pitched a perfect game as Ragsdale beat Grimsley 5-0 in Metro 4A Conference baseball Wednesday at Ragsdale.

Scott, an N.C. State signee, struck out 14 of the 21 batters he faced. He also laced a two-run single in the fifth.

Sam Ross belted a two-run triple for the Tigers (4-0, 3-0 in the Metro), who scored twice in the fourth and three times in the fifth. Nick Horkey went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, and Chase Gurney was 1 for 1 with two sacrifice bunts.

TRINITY, WHEATMORE

TRINITY — Trinity rallied to beat rival Wheatmore 6-5 in PAC-7 2A baseball Wednesday at Trinity. The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Warriors dipped to 0-3 both overall and in the conference.

EAST DAVIDSON, NORTH DAVIDSON

WELCOME — North Davidson beat East Davidson 10-0 in five innings Wednesday in Central Carolina 2A Conference baseball at North. Hunter Mashburn went 1 for 2 to lead the Golden eagles (1-2 overall, 0-1 CCC), while Merritt Beeker went 3 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs for the Black Knights. Badin Gusa took the loss for East, while Beeker got the win for North.

SOCCER WHEATMORE, CROATAN

NEWPORT — Seventh-seeded Wheatmore fell 3-2 in sudden-death overtime against second-seeded Croatan on Wednesday at Croatan in the second round of the NCHSAA 2A East girls soccer playoffs. Summer Bowman and Ellie Garrison each scored a goal for the Warriors (11-1), while Victoria Lowe finished with five saves in goal.

BISHOP McGUINNESS, CHRIST THE KING

HUNTERSVILLE — Eighth-seeded Bishop McGuinness lost 2-0 against top-seeded Christ the King on Wednesday at Christ the King in the second round of the NCHSAA 1A West girls soccer playoffs. The Villains finished with a 12-4 overall record.

SOFTBALL OAK GROVE, MADISON

MARSHALL — Tenth-seeded Oak Grove won its first playoff game in program history, beating seventh-seeded Madison 8-1 on Wednesday at Madison in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A West softball playoffs. Aliyah Compton and Julie Gadd each had three hits for the Grizzlies (11-4), who led 6-0 after two innings. Shae Grainger had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Alissa Russ also had two hits, including a double. Allie Johnston added a hit and two RBIs. Grainger struck out five and walked none in five innings for the win, while Russ struck out four and walked none in two no-hit innings.

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN, RAVENSCROFT

HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian built a lead early and hung on to beat Ravenscroft 5-3 on Wednesday at Wesleyan in the first round of the NCISAA 3A softball playoffs.

MacKenzie Smith had a double and an RBI while Lila Allred and Hailey Allred each had a double and a run for the Trojans (4-10). Kyla Fjeld also had a hit and a run.

Lila Allred struck out two in three innings while Hailey Allred struck out eight in four innings in the circle.

TENNIS THOMASVILLE, CENTRAL DAVIDSON

LEXINGTON — Thomasville lost 9-0 against Central Davidson in Central Carolina 2A Conference girls tennis Wednesday at Central Davidson.

WESTCHESTER CD, STATESVILLE CHRISTIAN

STATESVILLE — Westchester Country Day fell 5-4 against Statesville Christian on Wednesday at Statesville Christian in the opening round of the NCISAA Division III boys tennis playoffs.

Max Verellen and Aiden Apple won in singles for the Wildcats, while Verellen/Apple and Ryan Lim/Josiah Tomes won in doubles.

HP CHRISTIAN, CARY CHRISTIAN

CARY — High Point Christian lost 8-1 against Cary Christian on Wednesday in Cary in the opening round of the NCISAA Division II boys tennis playoffs.

Ian Jones won in singles for the Cougars.

HPU SPORTS MEN’S LACROSSE

RICHMOND, Va. — The High Point University men’s lacrosse team pushed past Jacksonville 11-9 on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament at the University of Richmond’s Robins Stadium. The Panthers second-seeded Panthers advance to face host and top-seed Richmond in the championship game today at noon. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
