GRANITE QUARRY — High Point Post 87 fell 6-0 against Rowan County Post 342 on Tuesday at Staton Field to open their American Legion Area III semifinals baseball series.

Julian Abreu and Derek Martinez each had two hits to lead the HiToms, who totaled seven hits for the game. Eli Crump took the loss in 5.1 innings on the mound.

Rowan — which had six hits — scored once in the first, twice in the third and three times in the fifth. Post 87 tallied two errors.

Because of a conflict at Finch Field with the Coastal Plain League HiToms, the teams were to play game 2 on Wednesday at Staton Field. If necessary, game 3 will be tonight at Finch Field at 7.

GREENSBORO — Jason Day and Tommy Fleetwood were two early commitments announced by the Wyndham Championship on Wednesday.

Day won the 2015 PGA Championship among his 12 PGA Tour victories. The Australian golfer has not won this season but finished tied for seventh at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Vivint Houston Open.

He is currently 70th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 95th in FedExCup points.

A native and resident of Southport, England, Fleetwood will represent Great Britain in Japan later this month. Fleetwood is 34th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 128th in the FedExCup standings. Fleetwood is a six-time international winner who played on the European Ryder Cup team in 2018 but is still seeking his first PGA Tour victory.

The Wyndham is scheduled Aug. 12-15 at Sedgefield Country Club.
