HIGH POINT — High Point University’s Cydney Johnson was named the Big South Conference’s women’s basketball freshman of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Johnson, a redshirt freshman from Raleigh, started all four of the Panthers’ games last week — the first starts of her career. She averaged 11.8 points while shooting 48% from the field, including 39% from 3-point range. She was also 80% from the foul line.
She led the team with a career-high 16 points in Saturday’s win at Winthrop. She also averaged 12.5 points, made 5 of 10 3-pointers and made three steals in High Point’s sweep of Campbell.
The Panthers, who have won seven games in a row, lead the conference standings — two full games ahead of second-place UNC Asheville. They next play Jan. 22-23 at Presbyterian.
