BLACK HISTORY MONTH LIVE WAX MUSEUM

Deep River Recreation Center is hosting a Black History Month Live Wax Museum where visitors will see and hear from some of the most influential African American and non-African American people in history. Participants will be able to try and guess the identity of each person; the top five with the most correct win a prize. WINTER GOLF RATES

Through Sunday, winter golf rates are in effect beginning at 8 a.m. at High Point Parks & Recreation’s two golf courses. At Oak Hollow Golf Course, the cost is $26 with a cart on weekdays and golfers receive a $3 food voucher for the grill room. Weekend rates are $30 with a cart and a $3 food voucher. At Blair Park, the weekday rate is $18 with cart and a $3 food voucher and $22 on weekends with a cart and $3 food voucher.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

Community garden plot holders at Oakview Recreation Center’s Community Garden, 503 James Road, High Point, may renew their plots now to March 1; beginning March 2 all available plots will be released for the public. Call Oakview at 336-883-3508 to renew or for more information.

BREAKING DOWN THE BARS

Youth ages 12-18 will gain a better understanding of different genres of music in the Breaking Down the Bars program, offered 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 4-25, at the Morehead Recreation Center, 101 Price St. Instructors will break down lyrics, songs and poems, and participants will ultimately learn to write their own music. The program is free, but space is limited and registration is required by calling 336-883-3506.

OPEN GYM BASKETBALL

Morehead Recreation Center is offering Open Gym basketball shoot-around times for youth, teens and adults throughout each week. At $2 per session, participants get some exercise in a low key, socially distanced environment while they sharpen their basketball skills. Masks are required. To register visit highpointnc.gov/pr.

RACIAL EQUITY INSTITUTE TRAINING

YWCA Community Builders will host a virtual Racial Equity Institute Groundwater presentation on Friday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to noon. Contact Heidi Majors at hmajors@ywcahp.com with questions. YWCA has received a grant from the High Point Community Foundation and The Earl & Katherine Congdon Family Foundation to continue to bring racial equity training to the community. The event is $20 and scholarships are available.

ANNUAL YOUTH LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY

Leaders of the N.C. General Assembly invite high school students to apply for the annual Youth Legislative Assembly. Applications are being accepted for the conference May 1. HISTORICAL PARK OPEN SATURDAYS

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the High Point Museum is closed to the public, but the Historical Park is currently open to the public on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Come watch a costumed blacksmith, see new outdoor exhibits and view the historical buildings.
