NEW YORK (AP) — The remains of a U.S. Marine veteran who had been missing in Ukraine for more than a year was to be returned to his family in eastern North Carolina later Friday, according to the group bringing the remains back to the U.S.

A Turkish Airlines plane flying from Istanbul with the remains of retired Marine Capt. Grady Kurpasi is scheduled to land at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Friday evening. After a short ceremony, a private jet will fly the remains to his family in Wilmington.
