HIGH POINT — A task force of city and private-sector leaders wants to know how High Pointers feel about the state of things as they ponder how to craft a new citywide marketing campaign.
The Marketing and Branding Subcommittee plans to hold a two-day retreat next month to hear the results of a city-commissioned citizens survey.
The subcommittee, formed by the City Council last year, will use the data to figure out its next official steps.
“We would get a sense of the current state of things from the community perspective — where High Point stands and where stakeholders believe we are,” said Councilman Michael Holmes, who is chairing the subcommittee.
He said that delving into the data will be the focus of the first day of the retreat.
“Then on day two, looking at where we want to be and then crafting a message to go forward with the data that we’ve collected from day one,” he said.
When it was formed, the subcommittee was tasked with designing a marketing campaign to reach diverse audiences.
It includes council members and city staff, as well as representatives from the High Point Market Authority, Visit High Point, Forward High Point and Business High Point.
So far, it’s discussed how to define the scope of its mission and looked into marketing campaigns that have been designed in other cities.
After the retreat, Holmes said the goal is to decide on an overarching message for the marketing campaign and then devise “actionable steps” for implementing it.
“Once the retreat is done, we’ll have a full report to council and then I would like to report the findings to the public,” he said.
