HIGH POINT — High Point police charged a 16-year-old boy Tuesday night after a man reported being robbed at gunpoint.

After receiving a call around 5:30 p.m., police went to a parking lot in the 2500 block of Bellemeade Street and talked with a man who said the teenager robbed him of his cellphone and 2013 Hyundai Accent, according to a press release.

Officers found someone who matched the teen’s description walking on Hall Street. When he saw the officers, the teen ran before being captured in a creek bed in the 300 block of Hall Street.

Officers recovered the gun believed to have been used during the robbery after the teenager attempted to discard it as he ran from officers, the press release said. Officers also found the victim’s stolen Hyundai in the 800 block of Belmont Street.

The teenager, whose name was not released, was charged with robbery with a firearm and felony larceny. He was being held at the juvenile holding facility in Greensboro.

The incident remained under investigation Wednesday. Anyone with information about illegal activity can contact Crime Stoppers of High Point at 336-889-4000 or download the P3 mobile app for IOS or Android.
