HIGH POINT — With July temperatures reaching into the 90s and more severe temperatures expected for August, the next fan giveaway is scheduled for Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at West End Ministries, 903 English Road.

About 165 fans have been given away this season through the collaboration of the United Way of Greater High Point’s “Fans for Seniors” and Senior Resources of Guilford’s “Operation Fan” programs. The programs distributed about 350 fans last summer and 440 in the summer of 2019.

To receive a fan, a recipient must live in Guilford County, be 60 or older, have proof of a disability, and have a home cooling situation that presents a health threat. A photo ID is required to receive a fan.

To help local seniors who do not have adequate resources for home cooling, UWGHP is accepting fan donations and asking that all donated fans be 20-inch box fans, new in the box, and UL-approved. Donated fans can be dropped off at United Way of Greater High Point. Call beforehand to schedule a drop off time. Monetary donations are also accepted ($20 per fan) and can be made at the United Way at 815 Phillips Ave. For more information, contact the United Way at 336-883-4127.

Those who are in need of a fan may contact Senior Resources of Guilford in High Point at 336-884-6981 for more information.
