HIGH POINT — Alfredo Paredes, who worked as Ralph Lauren’s chief creative officer for more than 30 years, is anticipating the debut of his first furniture collection at this weekend’s spring High Point Market.

Paredes spent a lot of time in High Point while working with EJ Victor on Ralph Lauren Home and also while developing his own collection over the past year.

“It has been such a joy to design my first-ever furniture collection, under my own name, with EJ Victor,” Paredes said. “The incredible freedom and support their team provided me allowed this to be such a personal and enriching experience and I’m thrilled to finally unveil this collection at High Point.”

Evoking a cultured bohemian spirit, the Alfredo Paredes collection by EJ Victor references classic European furniture with a casual, contemporary American twist. Made almost entirely in the United States, the multifunctional pieces are crafted of oak, maple, walnut and alder, with a palette of additional materials including seagrass, negresco stone and black pearl stone. Luxurious details, such as bullion fringe, woven leather and pyramid nailhead trim round out the collection.

Paredes told The High Point Enterprise his love for European and Spanish antiques inspired designs for this collection. He has been thinking for years about some of these designs, particularly ones that are inspired by antiques he collected from Europe.

“I was also inspired by my upbringing as a Cuban American in Miami in the 1970s, where there was a mixture of Spanish, mid-century modern and Art Deco architecture and the various interiors that went along with it,” Paredes said.

Partnering with EJ Victor on the development of his first standalone furniture collection was a natural choice for Paredes, who collaborated with the North Carolina-based team for more than a decade on the design and licensing of Ralph Lauren Home. This is the first furniture collection Paredes has launched under his own studio, which he founded in 2019 following a 33-year career at Ralph Lauren as a vice president and the company’s creative chief for retail and home.

The spring High Point Market starts Saturday and runs through Wednesday, June 9.
