Chris King’s gamble so far is paying off. King, the owner of Focus Event Group in High Point, opened a temporary drive-in movie theater called The Drive at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds in July. The two-screen drive-in with large, socially distanced parking spaces, touch-free ticketing and entry, and carhop concessions that you order on a mobile app is aimed at providing a safety-conscious, coronavirus-free evening of summer entertainment. King is renting the fairgrounds space and said he hoped to keep it open through at least Sept. 12, but now with news that Winston-Salem has canceled the Carolina Classic Fair, which was scheduled for Oct. 2-11, he might be able to keep it open longer.
