TRINITY — Residents in Trinity will enjoy no tax increase for a 17th straight year after members of city council approved a $5.9 million budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year.

The budget, which includes a property tax rate of 10 cents per $100 of valuation, was adopted at the June regular meeting of Trinity City Council after members voted to approve revenues and expenditures for the city’s funds. Those include the general fund, parks and recreation, city hall reserve, sewer operation, debt service and sewer connection fee reserve.

Debbie Hinson, the city’s manager, said in her address to members of council that 2021 is the 17th consecutive year the ad valorem tax rate remained constant.

The budget includes an appropriation from the sewer sales tax fund’s retained earnings to subsidize debt payments and sewer capital project funds. For a 17th straight year, the budget includes the dedication of 75% of the city’s projected sales tax revenue to pay debt service on completed sewer projects, Trinity’s share of the upgrade and expansion of Thomasville’s wastewater treatment plant and additional sewer projects that may be approved by council.

Approximately 44% of the budget is related directly to expanding and operating Trinity’s sewer system.

Trinity’s 2021-22 general fund budget is $3,427,380. That figure is up 15.47% from $2,968,225 from the current fiscal year.

In the way of special appropriations, the city earmarked $6,000 for the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation. Council pays an amount annually to the EDC for its services and does likewise for the Archdale Public Library, which will receive $5,000 in this year’s budget.

Randolph County Seniors are scheduled to take in $10,126 to fund an elderly nutrition program serving Trinity residents.

A copy of the budget is filed with the city clerk and is available for inspection at Trinity City Hall. If interested in reviewing the budget, residents can also review the documents at the Archdale Public Library or visit the city’s website.
