A Thomasville man is charged with beating his 75-year-old mother with a wooden curtain rod.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, officers on April 29 responded to 1480 Remer Regan Road in reference to the assault on a 75-year-old woman.

Deputies arrested the victim’s son,  David Allen Hughes,  46, of the same address and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, two counts of resisting arrest, assault on a government official, and malicious conduct by a prisoner.

He was placed in the Davidson County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. His court date is  May 11.
