The Davidson County Health Department reports the third case of rabies for the year. On March 13, a rabid skunk was found in the Denton community. The skunk attacked a dog and was killed by the dog.
The dog was not properly vaccinated and has been destroyed. There was no human exposure reported.
The Davidson County Health Department will hold a rabies clinic from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Davidson County Health Department in Lexington. Dr. Greg Hedrick will administer the vaccines. The cost is $5 per vaccination.
According to the health department, do not handle your animal with bare hands after it has had contact with a wild animal. Saliva from the wild animal may still be present on the domestic animal's fur. By handling the animal, you may expose yourself to the rabies virus.
